He and his wife Jolie have built their health store into a neighborhood hangout, where visitors greet them by name—Gary is called the “Medicine Man,” and Jolie is “Mama J.”

Sheriff and The Deputy

plays music at Thompson Chemists every 2nd, 4th, and 5th Tuesday of every month. It’s at 132 Thompson Street between Houston and Prince. Yes, it’s a complicated schedule. The postcards we give out have the dates on the back, so take one home with ya and never miss a show! Next one is on Tuesday July 9, 7-9pm! In the meantime, stop by the pharmacy and say hi to Gary and Jolie and all the fine folks there! It’s a magical place!

Recently, Thompson Alchemists and the Thompson Street Medicine Show were featured on CBS’s The Dig! Check out this lovely piece about ‘Mama J’ and ‘The Medicine Man’ – names taken from Kat’s Theme Song for the show!: Sheriff and The Deputy at the Thompson Street Medicine Show in the news!
